St. Olav Medal
The St. Olav Medal was donated by King Haakon VII of Norway on March 17, 1939 and can be awarded to anyone for general service to Norway and for personal service in times of war.
The silver medal shows the portrait of the reigning monarch on the front and his motto all around. The archbishop's mark of Trondheim is shown on the reverse . Above the monogram of the respective monarch.
The award is worn on a red ribbon with white and blue border stripes on the left chest. If the medal is awarded for military merit, a silver oak branch is attached to the ribbon.
It is also possible to award the order posthumously.
