The Evangelical Lutheran St. Veit Church is located in the municipality of Kriebitzsch in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish in Rositz church district Altenburger Land of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa (1122–1190) had the first church built in Kriebitzsch. It was given to the Posa Monastery in 1216 by Emperor Friedrich II .

description

The Romanesque hall church has a gable roof with a ridge turret . It has a recessed choir , which was expanded in 1322 by a five-sided polygon. The choir received buttresses in 1524 and a vault inside . Later alterations were made to the choir in 1673. In 1836 the late Gothic vault in the choir was torn down. In 1846 the medieval sacristy on the north side of the choir was changed. In 1872/73 the church was repaired and the church furnishings were renewed.
