history
When the Konrad-Adenauer-Siedlung was founded, a Catholic parish was created that required its own parish. After the canonization of St. Adelheid von Vilich by Pope Paul VI. the Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Frings, suggested that the new parish should be under the patronage of St. To ask Adelheid. In March 1968 the construction of the new parish church began, on June 15, 1968 the archbishop elevated the community to an independent parish. It was formed from parts of the parishes of St. Gereon Cologne-Merheim, St. Hubertus Cologne-Brück and St. Servatius Cologne-Ostheim. Until today's church was consecrated, the young congregation's services took place in a barrack that had become vacant after the Cologne-Brussels helicopter traffic was suspended.
The foundation stone for today's church was laid by Domkapitular Prelate Peter Lewen on June 23, 1968. In October 1969, the Archbishop of Cologne consecrated the new church and the surrounding building complex. In 1970 the first bell of a five-part planned ringing was consecrated in a festive service. In the 1970s, the church received its present internal form. Among other things, the tabernacle was completed and the weekday church set up, which adjoins the outside wall of the church in the north and is connected to the church by a tabernacle that can be operated from both sides.
Architecture and equipment
Relics of the martyrs of Uganda are set in the altar of the church, which is the center of the rectangular building . Behind the altar on the north wall of the church hangs a large cross with a corpus, to the left of it is a stone stele with a depiction of Christ as King from 1970.
In the tour there is a Way of the Cross by Father Rudolf Fritz.
