location

Cross with bronze body at the highest point of the Way of the Cross

The Klus (High German: " Klause ") is located in the district of Südlohne near Pickerweg and directly on Steinfelder Straße. At the Klus begins an ascending way of the cross , the highest point of which is at the twelfth station, a large cross with a corpus. Below the cross there is a memorial for those who died in the First and Second World Wars from Südlohn .

history

The first class was probably founded before 1300 by a returning crusader . However, no documents are available for this. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1518. In 1543 it was destroyed by the turmoil of the Reformation .

The second class was built in 1680 by Fritz von Dorgelo in the shape of an octagon. From 1684 to 1742 the Dorgelos had their own pastor at the Klus. In 1874 the second Klus was abandoned due to its dilapidation.

The theology student and later pastor August Vornhusen found several archives, including the old miraculous image of Klus, in the attic of the rectory of the parish of St. Gertrud . This figure ( Anna selbdritt ) represents Saint Anna, Maria and Jesus in one picture. After several appraisals, the miraculous image was given back to the clergy of Lohn on February 11, 1949. According to legend, the tenant of the Klus property, Bernd Höne, found a large stone while plowing that day, which was identified as part of the second Klus. Excavations at this point exposed further foundation parts of the second clus. On March 2, 1949 it was decided to rebuild the cave at the site. The garden architect Josef Hempelmann provided the construction plans for it. The sanctuary was inaugurated by Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Gleumes on St. Anne's Day, July 26, 1949 . The ceremony was held by the Grafenhorst official . Some of the foundation parts of the second class are now integrated into the new building. The first stone found is placed next to the entrance to the cave.

On July 27, 2019, the 70th anniversary of the re-establishment of the third Klus was celebrated with a festive service on Klusplatz.

Healing spring

In an episcopal visitation protocol from 1703 it is reported about the source that many sick people used to drink from it and were healed. According to oral reports, various votive offerings , including glasses, crutches and silver hearts, hung in the second class .

After completion of the third Klus, Josef Hempelmann examined the immediate vicinity of the Klus and found only one spot of close growth with field horsetail, a sign of high water. Excavations at the site exposed the old source. On February 11, 1950, the pipelines from the source to the new Klusbrunnen were completed and this was fed with the spring water. The water is considered to be medicinal water, especially for diseases of the eye.

Today's structure

Station 1 of the Way of the Cross

The chapel building itself has remained unchanged since it was rebuilt in 1949. The interior was renovated in 1971 and expanded to 60 seats.

On August 25, 1957, the Way of the Cross at the Klus was inaugurated. The station pictures are cut from linden wood. The colored pictures of the Way of the Cross were made by Heinrich Lückenkötter from Oelde i. W. designed. They are housed in an oak shrine with a copper roof. At the 12th station there was no picture at first, but a free-standing cross. In 2000 the free-standing cross was decorated with a bronze body by Ferdinand Starmann from Neuenkirchen and inaugurated.

In 2002 the Klus received a free-standing bell tower with a three-part bell. The three bells bear the names of the people depicted on the image of grace: Anna, Maria and Jesus. They were cast by the bell foundry Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock in Gescher . The following inscriptions are on the bells next to the miraculous image:

  • Holy Mother Anna, we call you in our troubles.
  • Holy Mother Anna, in your lap you are carrying Mary.
  • Holy Mother Anna, you point to Jesus Christ

use

The Klus is used as the starting point for the annual Good Friday procession of the parish of St. Gertrud. Other outdoor crossroads take place from the second Sunday of Lent to Palm Sunday during Passion . Holy Masses are celebrated every week on Wednesdays at 8.30 a.m.

In addition, St. Anne's Klus is a place where relatives and neighborhoods often pray a Stations of the Cross for a deceased. Smaller weddings can also be held in the Klus.
