St. Antonius Abt (also called Hervormde Kerk , German  Reformed Church ), today an exhibition building, was the Evangelical Reformed parish church of Overasselt (municipality of Heumen ) in the Dutch province of Gelderland .

history

The late Gothic parish church, dedicated to St. Anthony the Great , was incorporated into the priory of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme in Overasselt. Archaeological excavations have a previous building from 10/11. Evidence of the 19th century, which was probably related to the Benedictine priory. The church became a Reformed parish church at the beginning of the 17th century. The nave was abandoned in 1710 because it was dilapidated and only the 15th century choir room was prepared for church services by walling up the west gable and closing the triumphal arch. The old choir consists of two bays, closes on three sides and is spanned by a net vault. In 1908 an open bell cage was placed on the west gable.

Since 1972, when the believers in Overasselt joined forces with the parish in Heumen, the choir has not been used for worship.

Today the remnant of the church serves as an exhibition space and is a Dutch Rijksmonument under the number 32125. In the directory of monuments there, the church is described as “Restant van een laat-gothische kloosterkerk” ( remnants of a late Gothic monastery church ). In the regional historical literature used here, however, there is no equivalent and only a description as a parish church. The priory had its own church north of Overasselt with the St. Walrick chapel.
