The first chapel was built around 1300. From the beginning it was owned by the Counts of Flitzing , who held the local court marque. The chapel was built in the middle of the village, not far from the former castle .

When the Flitzinger Bach flooded in 1707, the building was torn down. According to tradition, only the portrait of the church patron, St. Bartholomew , should not have perished in the masses of water.

Two years later, the local residents decided to rebuild the chapel. The surrounding courtyards bore the costs of the new building. In 1853 and 1855 the tower was given a new bell. In 1981/1982 the chapel was extensively restored.
