The parish church of St. Bonifatius is a Catholic church in Bernburg in Saxony-Anhalt . It dates from the 19th century and is located in Bergstadt, Theaterstrasse 5, not far from the palace complex and above the right bank of the Saale .

history

With the introduction of the Reformation in the Anhalt principalities, Catholic life in Bernburg ended. As a result of industrialization, in particular the establishment of sugar factories , numerous immigrants came to the region around the middle of the 19th century, including many Catholic Eichsfelder .

In 1859, as administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate Anhalt , Nuncio Flavio Chigi signed the founding charter of the new parish, which received the patronage of St. Boniface . Construction of the church was 1864. On September 2, 1867, the Church by Bishop Boniface was Konrad Martin of Paderborn consecrated . The interior of the church underwent several changes in the following years. Today's simple interior design was created after the Second Vatican Council . Next to the church is the parish center of the community.

The church is a listed building.
