St. Bonifaz is a Catholic church in the Gartenstadt district of Ludwigshafen . It was built between 1929 and 1930 according to plans by Albert Boßlet .

history

The garden city began to be developed in 1914. The Catholics were initially looked after by the St. Sebastian Church in Mundenheim . After the First World War , the population grew steadily, so that in 1928 an independent parish was established. In 1929 the construction of the church began, which came from the planning of the architect Albert Boßlet and his colleague Karl Lochner . St. Boniface was consecrated on March 30, 1930. In 1976 a renovation took place.

After the Second World War , two more parishes emerged from St. Bonifaz, St. Hildegard in 1947 and St. Hedwig in 1968. From 1983 the former mother parish of St. Boniface was co-administered by St. Hedwig, before all three Gartenstadt parishes merged to form the Garden City Catholic Parish Community in 2003 .

description

inner space

St. Boniface stands in the center of the garden city. The structure was deliberately designed as a dominant feature within the low residential area on the plain. The architecture shows both expressionist and Romanesque motifs. The type corresponds to a basilica . The relatively wide central nave has a flat ceiling. The semicircular apse is structured with tall slotted windows.

The organ was built by Walcker in 1980 . The 28 meter high church tower, covered with a flat gable roof, is placed on the northern flank. The ringing consists of four bells that were cast by the Schilling bell foundry in 1960 :
