St. Briktius (Oekoven)
The Romanesque pillar basilica St. Briktius is the Roman Catholic parish church of Oekoven , a district of Rommerskirchen in the Rhine district of Neuss .
history
The three-aisled Romanesque pillar basilica of St. Briktius is dated to the 12th century, the oldest documented mention of the church is a document from Pope Honorius III. from 1223, in which this confirmed the possession of the church and the Fronhof zu Oekoven to the St. Gereon Abbey in Cologne . In 1287, Oekoven was first referred to as a parish .
The tower, central nave and apse of today's church date from the 12th century. In the 16th century the side aisles were changed, in the 17th century they were covered with cross vaults. In the years 1877 to 1880, the Cologne architect August Carl Lange removed the later renovations and arranged for the aisles to be laid down. They were re-performed in neo-Romanesque forms and adapted to the style of the original building.
