history
As a result of the Second World War , Catholic refugees and displaced persons also settled in Dörnten , which has been evangelical since the Reformation . After only a few Catholics lived in Dörnten before 1945, their number had risen to around 300 by the beginning of 1947. From June 20, 1946, the pastor from Othfresen held catholic services in Dörnten, initially in the Protestant church . From January 1, 1952, the hall of the Goldener Löwe restaurant was rented for Catholic services and turned into an emergency chapel.
On September 28, 1968 the benediction of the newly built church, which is just under 185 meters above sea level , took place. It was a multi-purpose building called a church house , which in addition to a worship room also included community rooms. After almost 30 years of use, the church house was abandoned because the number of Catholics in Dörnten had decreased and repairs to the building had become necessary. In 1997 the building was sold to private customers and is now used for artistic purposes.
