Frederick "Fred" Lonzo (born August 26, 1950 in New Orleans ) is an American jazz trombonist . The Tailgate stylist, influenced by Waldren Joseph , is currently one of the busiest trombonists in New Orleans.

Live and act

Lonzo began playing on his brother's borrowed instrument at the age of 13. As a teenager he performed at jazz parades with EG Gabon and Doc Paulin. He attended college at Xavier University, where he played both rhythm and blues as well as rock and funk , including with The Gladiators , which then became The Batiste Brothers . He played with Paul Crawford and then became a member of Bob French's Storyville Jazz Band for six years . He was also a member of the Heritage Hall Band and the Olympia Brass Band before performing at Preservation Hall in the mid-1980s , touring with Percy Humphrey , Kid Sheik , Alonzo Stewart, Manny Crusto, Frank Fields and Freddie Kohlman .

Lonzo accompanied musicians such as Wallace Davenport , Sammy Price , Dr. Michael White , John Brunious and Lars Edegran, to whose Riverwalk jazz band he belonged for many years. In 2002 he released his album Ready for Freddy on Big Bill Bissonnette 's Jazz Crusade label , which also featured clarinetist Brian Carrick. He can also be heard on recordings by Papa French , Louis Prima , Teddy Riley, Father Al Lewis, Lars Edegran , Wanda Rouzan, Doc Cheatham and Wynton Marsalis . He is also a member of the Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble .
