Percy Humphrey

Percy Humphrey (born January 13, 1905 in New Orleans , † July 22, 1995 ibid) was an American jazz trumpeter band leader of New Orleans Jazz and Dixieland .

His father is the clarinetist Willie Eli Humphrey, his brothers the clarinetist Willie Humphrey and the trombonist Earl Humphrey (1902–1971). His grandfather "Professor" Jim Humphrey regularly drove from New Orleans to the area plantations in the 1890s to give music lessons to children.

From 1961 until his death he played regularly in the Preservation Hall and toured worldwide with its musicians and his own band. In addition to his own bands (Crescent City Joymakers), he was director of the Eureka Brass Band for thirty years (since 1946, it was founded in 1920). He recorded with her a lot. It was officially dissolved in 1975, but revived by Humphrey at festivals. He also played in Sweet Emma Barrett's band in the 1960s . A few months before his death, he played at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 1995 .

From 1951 to 1953 he played with George Lewis .
