St. Corentin, Cury

St. Corentin (English St Corentine's Church ) is an Anglican parish church of the Church of England in Cury, a small village south of Helston in Cornwall . The church is classified as a Grade I cultural monument .

history

The parish church consecrated to St. Corentin von Quimper was originally built in the 12th century, presumably on a cross-shaped floor plan. Written building records do not exist, a consecration is documented for the year 1261. The tower, the north aisle and the vestibule in the corner between the nave and the transept were added in the 15th century . The choir dominates the aisle only a few meters to the east, while the southern arm of the transept is in the middle of the building. In 1874 the church underwent a major renovation. Among other things, the roof was renewed and the church equipped with new window glazing. The work on the vestibule partially covered the important Romanesque portal with tympanum .
