Saint Corentin of Quimper († around 490 in Brittany ) was a missionary and bishop . He is also called Corentius, Corentinus, Kaourintin and Cury. His feast day is December 12th. He is considered one of the seven founding saints of Brittany.

Life

The biography of St. Corentin was written around 1220. He was the son of a tribal leader in Brittany and initially led a life as a hermit in Plomodiern . Corentin's work is associated with the legendary King Gradlon and the legend about the city of Ys . Gradlon is said to have decided to found the Quimper diocese and to install Corentin as the first bishop there. The existence of Corentin as the first bishop of Quimper is recognized in research. In 453 he signed the decrees of the Council of Angers . Among his students are the important Breton saints Guénolé , founder of the Abbey of Landévennec , and Tudy .

The main focus of his veneration as a saint is in Brittany, where, in addition to Quimper Cathedral, a number of churches and chapels are dedicated to him, such as the parish church of Cury in Cornwall .
