St. Cosmas and Damian (Leer)
The Catholic branch church St. Cosmas and Damian is a listed church building in Leer , a district of the small town Horstmar in the Steinfurt district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
Architecture and history
On a main courtyard of the abbey of Werden was a private church founded. It was first mentioned in a document in 1217. In 1269, the court and church were exchanged for the nobles of Ahaus .
The building is a small early Gothic vaulted hall with a tower from 1828. The church has been significantly expanded several times, a sacristy on the north side is from 1881, the last expansion, an early example of the use of reinforced concrete, was made in 1930.
Furnishing
- An important branch crucifix from around 1300. It is set with leaves.
- Gothic painting with rare peculiarities was uncovered on a vault cap in 1981
- A copy of half of a double Madonna from the end of the 15th century, the original in private ownership
- Figure from the sound cover of the pulpit (Rococo), depicting St. Michael.
- Oil painting of the Annunciation , around 1800
organ
The Sauer - organ was probably built in the 1930s and remodeled about 25 years later. The instrument has a total of 28 stops on two manuals and a pedal .

Since the church musician was also the sexton until 2015, the bell that rings for the change is still operated from the console at the push of a button.
