St. Cyriac Church

The Protestant village church St. Cyriakus is located in the Höngeda district of the city of Mühlhausen in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia . The Holy Cyriakus is the patron saint of winegrowers.

history

The citizens of the Höngeda settlement with their St. Cyriakskirche at that time lived in an important strategic place as neighbors of the imperial city of Mühlhausen and as residents in the very wide Unstrutaue . The church was therefore developed as a fortified church and outpost for the Mühlhäuser Landgraben in order to protect people and animals from natural and human violence. As a fortified church and watch tower , it is located in the center of the village and is visible from afar thanks to its high tower . Later it was "only" a place of worship for the faithful and other citizens in the village.
