history

In the Domesday Book of 1086 it is mentioned that there is a priest and a church in Sleaford . The oldest part of St. Church dedicated to Dionysius is the tower (early Gothic from around 1180) with its top (from around 1200). In 1271 two merchants donated a Lady Chapel. Around 1360 to 1370, the central nave and the two side aisles with their tracery windows were rebuilt . The north-facing transept was built around 1380, called "Lady Chapel"; the north wall of this chapel received a large tracery window. The Perpendicular Style choir was added around 1430. This building stock has remained almost unchanged until today. Only St Hugh's Chapel was added to the north aisle and transept in 1853. On September 21, 1884, lightning destroyed the tower. The reconstruction took place in the years 1885 and 1886; In 2003 a new "bell ringing" room was created.

There were several changes in the equipment. After the Reformation in 1566, the upper part of the medieval rood screen was removed and burned in the market square. From 1758 to 1784 north, west and south pores were built in , which were removed again in 1853. 1772 was the organ of Samuel Green in the Church; In 1891 the organ was sold and a new one was installed by Forster & Andrews from Hull . In 1920 the rood screen was (re) erected.
