St. Dionysius

St. Dionysius is a listed parish church in the Steinheim district of Sandebeck . The church, built between 1858 and 1861, belongs to the Höxter deanery in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

History and architecture

Nave and chancel

The church was built as a successor to the church used from 1555 to 1840. The foundation was built in autumn 1858, the foundation stone was laid on May 19, 1859, and on May 16, 1861 the first holy mass with Pastor Eickhoff took place. It was not until six years later, on May 13, 1867, the church was Bishop Conrad Martin consecrated .

St. Dionysius is a three-nave hall church built in the neo-Gothic style . The nave has the dimensions 24.6 m * 15 m, the adjoining chancel to the east is 7.4 m long and 6.5 m wide. The copper-roofed church tower rises to the west with a height of 48 meters.

Furnishing

In the church there are numerous items of equipment from the previous church, such as an offering box from 1588, the holy water font from 1620 and the baptismal font from 1627. The Marien Altar was consecrated on August 20, 1893. The present organ was built between 1971 and 1973.

After the end of the war, three new cast steel bells were cast for the bells that were melted down in World War II . They are named Dionysius (805 kg), Jesus Christ (495 kg) and Maria (350 kg).
