The St. Dionysius Church is a Catholic parish church in Sinz, Saarland . It bears the patronage of St. Dionysius of Paris and is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland's list of monuments .

history

Sinz was a pastor as early as the ninth century and had a church dedicated to St. Dionysius. The parish "Dionysius" Sinz is mentioned for the first time in the books of St. Matthias Trier. A visit from 1667 reported a church with two altars, which was in a "desolate state" and partly in ruins. In 1683 a new church was built. In 1844 the church was rebuilt. Only the tower of the old church remained. During the Second World War, the church was destroyed in a tank battle in the "Orscholz-Riegel". After the end of the war, mass was held under the church's gallery, which had not been destroyed. In 1945 the only remaining bell was dug up from the rubble and hung to ring. From mid-November 1945 various emergency barracks were used as places of worship. In 1949/50, St. Dionysius was rebuilt according to designs by Perler architect H. Ulrich and renamed on November 12, 1950. In 1953 three new bells were picked up in Colmar. In 2005 the building was renovated outside. In 2012 the interior was renovated and the choir room was redesigned.

Architecture and equipment

The church with a gable roof was built on slightly sloping terrain over a base with sandstone rustics. Portal and windows are equipped with round arches. An oculus sits above the portal . On the long sides there are four large windows between four paired smaller windows. The church tower with a square floor plan sits slightly offset in the north corner of the building by the drawn-in rectangular choir with sacristy . The interior was designed in the style of a pseudo-basilica . Narrow rectangular columns support the flat ceiling with stucco. Two side altars flank the triumphal arch. The interior of the choir was redesigned in 2012 and is kept modern.

The altar comes from the stonemason Johannes Räbiger from Mettlach. It was dismantled from the no longer used and meanwhile burned down church of St. Helena in Burbach.
