St. Familia (Kassel)
St. Familia is a Roman Catholic parish church in Kassel - Mitte , which belongs to the diocese of Fulda . It is on Kölnische Strasse.
history
Around 1860, the then only Catholic parish church of St. Elisabeth became too small, as many of the Prussian soldiers stationed in Kassel were Catholic. Around 1890 the site of the church near the train station was acquired, construction work began in 1897 and the church was consecrated in 1899. In 1908 the St. Familia parish became an independent parish .
The church was destroyed in the Second World War and then rebuilt unchanged until 1953.
architecture
The architect Georg Kegel from Kassel won the architecture competition . He designed a neo-Romanesque basilica on a cross plan with a round apse in the south and a square bell tower to the northwest next to the portal facade. This is designed with a three-arched porch and a group of sculptures of the Holy Family .
