history

The parish was founded in 1255 by Pastor Wilhelm (pastor in St. Anton Amern ). In 1258 the parish received baptism and burial rights. The Altar of Our Lady was erected in 1684 .

In 1802 the chapel, the first church building whose appearance is unknown today, was demolished. The new church was built in the same year from a foundation by Anna Katharina Mühlenberg - the sacristy was added in 1880. Restorations took place in 1966 and 1987.

architecture

Church building

The church building is a brick building (length 23.05 m; width 10.65 m) with a gable roof - the nave is a hall church with a semicircular choir. The turret above the entrance portal has a curved hood and a pointed helmet. The entrance portal is made of bluestone - above the entrance there is an approx. 1.50 m high niche with the figure of St. James around 1850/60.

Furnishing

High altar

The high altar originally comes from the Premonstratensian monastery church Knechtsteden . The altar, made of oak and partially gilded, was created around 1670. A 17th century altarpiece from the Lower Rhine or Flemish region shows "James on the move".

Furniture

On the Camino de Santiago

Some furnishings have probably also been taken over from Knechtsteden Monastery:

  • Two communion benches made of oak around 1670 with acanthus lattice work
  • An oak pulpit, dates from 1650 to 1675
  • Marian throne with standing figure "Madonna with Jesusknaben", painted in color, around 1750/60

window

The church has ten stained glass windows that can be dated to 1890. Saints Heinrich , Barbara , Jakobus and Ludgerus are depicted in the choir . "Carpet patterns" are shown in the nave.

organ

The organ was built between 1750 and 1770 - it was probably bought in 1805 from Eppinhoven near Neuss . It has ten registers with an attached pedal . The external appearance, the prospectus , is divided into five and has three towers. The last renovation was carried out in 1981 by Fischer and Krämer, Endingen .
