St. Johannes Baptist (Kurl)
The Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is a listed church building at Werimboldstraße 8 in Kurl , a district of Dortmund in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
The church was built between 1733 and 1738 as a simple hall church with a choir with a 5/8 end , after the old previous church burned down in 1728 by a lightning strike. On December 8, 1738, the church was consecrated unfinished. It was not until 1785 that the church could be completed with the construction of a solidly bricked west facade. The reason was a lack of funding from the community. The high western tower in neo-Romanesque forms and the extended western extensions were built in 1906 according to plans by the Dutch architect Johannes Franziskus Klomp after the old roof tower was demolished. There are a total of five bells in the tower. The oldest bell is the St. Peter bell from 1607. It is a bronze bell that is tuned to the tone g 'and was cast by "Dirik Sluter". In 1923 three new cast steel bells were cast for the church by the Bochum Association with the tones e ', g' and b '. In 2003 the bell was extended by a new bronze bell from the Bell and Art Foundry Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock . In the years 1970–1972 the church was expanded to include a southern extension. The flat-roofed interior is strongly influenced by the redesigns of 1951 and 1972.

Furnishing
- The Romanesque font is probably from the first half of the 12th century. The wall is completely in relief. The depiction of the angelic figures seems awkward. The Agnus Dei with a cross and fish as well as birds are depicted in highly schematic ornamentation .
