St. Johannes Baptista in Untergriesheim

The Catholic Church of St. Johannes Baptista in Bad Friedrichshall - Untergriesheim was built in 1839/40.

history

The original church in Untergriesheim was St. Cäcilia and was in the local cemetery. After the new church building, a little south of the cemetery, was completed, the old church was demolished in 1845. The new church was consecrated on June 21, 1849 by Bishop Josef von Lipp . An old bell from 1714 was taken over into the new church, and one bell was added in 1928 and 1952. The church has been renovated several times.

Notable historical art treasures are the ceiling painting by Carl Dehner from the 19th century in the choir, stalls from the Rococo period and a baroque Madonna. The modern equipment of the church and the painting with colored geometric patterns were carried out on the occasion of a recent renovation.

In front of the church is the Johannesbrunnen from 1993.
