Carl Dehner (also Karl Dehner ; born January 16, 1846 in Rottenburg am Neckar ; † July 26, 1928 there ) was a painter from Württemberg , mainly church painter .

Life

After five years of Latin school , Dehner attended the Schwarzsche Kunstgewerbeschule and at the same time did his painting apprenticeship with a painter Kaltmark in Rottenburg am Neckar. Then he went on a journey as a journeyman. In 1864 he began to work in Basel , in 1866 in Freiburg im Breisgau and finally in 1867 in Munich , where he continued his education at the art academy . In 1868 he traveled to Rome to study paintings and to paint backdrops . In 1872 he passed the master craftsman examination.

After graduating as a master craftsman, he founded a company in his hometown and married. In 1885 he built his own workshops in Rottenburg. In 1896 he worked again in Munich.

Works

In 1877 he made a major contribution to the design of Weissenstein Castle in the neo-Gothic style. There he painted a ceiling in the living area and designed a number of doors. The castle chapel, which he designed completely, has been preserved to this day. His main work was the painting of the St. John's Church in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1878 and 1879. Other larger church projects included the painting of the St. Briccius Church in Wurmlingen in 1893 and the painting of the Wurmlingen Chapel in 1911. Dehner was also known as a crib builder and set designer.
