St. Johannes Nepomuk , originally Maria Hilf , is a former pilgrimage church in Oberlana, a district of the market town of Lana in South Tyrol .

history

In place of a shooting range, a chapel was consecrated in 1643/1644 on the basis of a vow made by the noble wife Dorothea Stocker to build a wayside shrine. Since the pilgrimage to Maria Hilf took off, the church soon proved to be too small and was completely destroyed after a landslide on November 7, 1647. The miraculous image could be saved. According to the plans of the builder Delay von Bozen, a larger church was built at the current location next to the bridge over the Falschauer river in Oberlana. The consecration took place on October 6, 1652 by the Prince-Bishop of Chur, Johannes VI. Flugi. In 1786, at the time of the Josephine church reform , the Maria Hilf Church was closed. However, the population was "graciously permitted" to have the image of grace transferred to the Capuchin Church, which took place on August 9, 1786. The church was then closed for a long time and was temporarily used for school worship. In view of the location of the church on the Falschauer, the bridge saint Johannes Nepomuk , who also adorns the high altar, became the main patron saint of the church.

Furnishing

The outer facade is decorated with two large murals. On the left is Mary, St. Johannes Nepomuk and St. Francis of Assisi is shown interceding with Christ. On the right side are St. Anthony of Padua and St. Florian is shown as an intercessor to the Mother of God who appears in the clouds. The interior of the church houses valuable altars, statues and votive pictures. The walls are decorated with scenes from Marienbleben and are by the painter Heinrich Frisch. The monumental high altar in black and gold consists of a large picture in the center with the signature "IP 1731". The altarpiece is attributed to the painter Mathias Pussjäger .
