The Capuchin monastery with the church of St. Joachim and Anna is a protected architectural monument of the market town of Lana in South Tyrol .

history

At the instigation of Anna Katharina von Mantua , the wife of Archduke Ferdinand II , she brought the Capuchins to Tyrol in 1593 . In 1616 a Capuchin monastery was founded in Merano . A short time later the monks came from there to Lana as fasting and parish preachers. From 1647 Ludwig von Ruedl auf Helmsdorf granted the priests accommodation in the Gartscheid residence . The newly built Maria-Hilf Church and later the Church of St. Peter served them as their place of work in Lana . The foundation stone for an own church in the village was laid on May 4, 1664 and consecrated three years later, on September 18, 1667. During the Enlightenment , the church was temporarily closed, but was reopened as an auxiliary church to the remote parish church of the Assumption . In 1786 the church took on the miraculous image of the Maria-Hilf-Kirche. The added arcades around the building date from 1867. The northern arcade was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The Lourdes grotto in the side wall is from 1913. The monastery was closed in 2013, mass celebrations continue to take place in the church.

Furnishing

The interior is simply designed. The rectangular ship has a barrel vault . A rectangular side chapel adjoins the north side . The main altar and the two side altars date from the 17th century. The miraculous image on the main altar hung in the Maria-Hilf-Kirche until 1786. The altarpieces created Matthias Pussjäger . Behind the altar is a room that was originally reserved for the monks.
