The Roman Catholic branch church of St. John the Baptist  in Mehring belongs to the parish and community of Teisendorf in the Berchtesgadener Land district . The late Gothic building was built around 1420.

history

The construction of the church, which stands on the foundation walls of a previous Romanesque building, was probably started before 1420. The church was consecrated on August 28, 1424. The church was given a sacristy annex in 1615, and early Rococo furnishings were added in the middle of the 18th century. The church fire of June 16, 1951 caused severe damage to the tower and the nave, the furnishings remained almost intact. The last renovation took place in 1991/92.

description

The single-nave hall church is divided into a four-bay nave and a non-retracted two-bay choir with a three-eighth end . The slender church tower set in the west wall has a high pointed spire . The eastern tracery window is originally Gothic, the rest have been added in neo-Gothic style. To the south are the late Renaissance sacristy and the same sign .

High altar

Inside, the nave and choir are separated by a slightly protruding choir arch, and each has a ribbed vault with keystones . The high altar from 1700, with early baroque features, has shown the late Gothic figure of the church patron (before 1500) instead of the original altar sheet since 1953. On the side the Saints John the Evangelist and John the Baptist are depicted (both in baroque style). The extract shows the coronation of Mary . The side altars, made in early Rococo, with bandwork carving and magnificently painted plant motifs , integrate the late Gothic seated figures of Saints Paul and Urban in the central niche . A seated Madonna, surrounded by a halo, was donated to the north wall in 1953. Above the portal is the baroque console figure of St. Andrew. Fragments of Gothic stained glass have been preserved in the choir windows.
