St. John's Church

The St. Johannis Church in Pansfelde is a Protestant church in the Pansfelde district of the town of Falkenstein / Harz . It belongs to the Evangelical parish Falkenstein / Harz, parish area Ermsleben, in the parish of leeches of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

An "old church" was first mentioned in 1517 in Pansfelde. The place had fallen desolately in the 14th century and was not repopulated until the 1540s by the Lords of Asseburg . The church was probably also rebuilt around 1545. In 1670, Johann Bernhard I von der Asseburg, as local lord, had the church rebuilt with an organ and a three-part bell. After the death of his wife in 1671, he had a mausoleum built on the south side of the nave as a family burial place. In 1790 the church tower was rebuilt with a baroque half-timbered tower and a helmet converted into an octagon. The nave was renewed in 1800 and enlarged to a floor plan of 7 × 12 m. Already in 1850 the church had to be closed because of dilapidation. In the years 1854 to 1856 the nave was rebuilt in its present form as a stone-faced quarry stone building with romanized arched windows. At the same time the church received a new organ, and in 1884 a new tower clock.

During the Second World War , two bronze bells had to be handed in for armament purposes. They were replaced by two steel bells in 1956. In 1978 the ship was re-covered with concrete bricks, in 2009 the spire was re-slated.

An interest group has been taking care of the maintenance and use of the church since 2008.

Furnishing

The interior of the church presents itself today with an open roof. The space is divided into three naves by a circumferential gallery. The pulpit is on the east side above the altar. Behind the east wall, the nave is closed off by a semicircular apse with a sacristy that is closed to the nave . The furnishings include a Luther painting by the painter Caroline Bardua from nearby Ballenstedt .

mausoleum

The mausoleum contains the coffins of the builder Johann Bernhard I von der Asseburg († 1682) and his wife Katharina von Stammer († 1671). Further burials of relatives took place until 1761.
