Building history

The history of the church, built in the style of the Brazilian Baroque , is closely related to the Lauta aluminum works , as is the case with the Evangelical City Church . Until the Reformation, a Roman Catholic church in was Lauta village . With the construction of the aluminum plant, a Roman Catholic community was created in Lautawerk. On May 11th 1924 the foundation stone for the Josefskirche was laid. Adolf Cardinal Bertram , Prince-Bishop of Breslau, consecrated the church on April 25, 1926. Two to three weeks later, the rectory was also ready for occupancy.

Interior decoration

The cross in the chancel, created in 1934/35 by Erich Jaekel from Glogau, has been preserved from earlier times . The church underwent several renovations. In 1957, new windows were installed in place of those destroyed in the air raids in March 1945. A new three-winged altar , a pulpit , a tabernacle and two candlesticks as well as a Madonna were renewed. In 1975 the church was redesigned in accordance with the Second Vatican Council , with the old cross also being returned to the back wall of the chancel. In 1994 the church was repainted. The floor, lighting and heating were modernized, and a small electric organ was added in the choir room.
