history

The new St. Josef building in Mitterfels was built as a cemetery chapel in 1844 , as the new cemetery was outside the village and away from the former parish church of St. Georg . The consequences of a lightning strike had to be painstakingly repaired in 1957. A few years later the foundations were renewed and the walls drained. From April 2015, a major renovation took place with a total cost of 212,000 euros, which was completed with the blessing on October 17, 2015. Among other things, the previously inclined bell tower was realigned, the roof structure renewed, cracks in the wall repaired and the inside of the church renewed.

Building description

The building is about eight meters wide and twelve meters long and has a small bell tower on the south-eastern outer wall. The furnishings are simple and include statues of the patron saint and a Madonna, the so-called “protective coat woman”, donated in 1945.
