The St. Joseph Church is a Catholic church in the Finnentrop district of Bamenohl . It is the seat of the parish of the same name in the pastoral network of the Bigge-Lenne-Tal.

historical development

In the first known document of Bamenohl in 1362 there was talk of a chapel which is said to have stood in Ober-Bamenohl . According to the latest research findings, this refers to today's Bamenohl company . A chapel belonged to the Bamenohl house until the 1930s, the last of which was dedicated to St. Albinus. With a wall thickness of approx. 80 cm, it only had an interior space of approx. 7.60 x 5.60 m. The year of construction is confirmed to be 1647.

The members of today's parish of Bamenohl-Weringhausen belonged to the parish of Schönholthausen in earlier centuries . After the first clergyman, Vicar Zeppenfeld, officially arrived in Bamenohl on December 12, 1901, the first St. Masses celebrated in the new rifle hall, which has been converted into a church. However, this emergency solution should exist for a total of 25 years. A shooting festival was no longer celebrated there. It was canceled in 1927 because it was in disrepair.

In the course of these 25 years, the bond with Schönholthausen became less and less and a later parish was foreseeable in view of the population increase of the place. Already on June 24, 1905, the Bamenohl pastor was able to move into a new rectory. The money for a new church was not yet available. The period of the First World War from 1914 to 1918 could not be used to build our own church.

The construction of the church began in the late summer of 1923. The foundation stone was laid on the 1st Sunday in September 1923. It was only on 5 December 1926, the present church was solemnly benediziert be. The consecration took place on June 29, 1928 by Auxiliary Bishop Hillebrand.

The building plans were made by the Paderborn diocesan master builder Kurt Matern . The masonry consists of Listertal quarry stone , is unplastered on the outside and is statically supported by buttresses. The roof is covered with Fredeburg slate .
