The church

The Protestant village church of St. Katharina is in the Steigerthal district of the city of Nordhausen in Thuringia .

history

The village church is said to have existed as the foundation of Walkenried monks as early as the 12th century . It was first mentioned in 1506 as a parish church in Steigerthal.

It was structurally changed several times inside and out. The church tower was once torn down because it was in disrepair. The three bells were housed in an adjacent bell house. They are bells from the former Himmelgarten monastery at the gates of Nordhausen.

The current condition of the church goes back to a renovation in the 17th century. On the front of the organ prospect , seven members of the Steigerthal Landwehr are immortalized, who fought in the battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815 .
