St. Katharinen (Großenbrode)
The Church of St. Katharinen is the Evangelical Lutheran church in the community of Großenbrode in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein . The church and its surroundings are one of the few buildings in the community that have been designated as a cultural monument .
history
The church was first mentioned in 1230. The early Gothic building was built from field stones before 1232, later from bricks. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the church was given a wooden tower, when the west portal was closed. The entrance is now on the south side. The vestibule vestibule was added in later years.
On December 26, 1931, Reinhard Heydrich and Lina von Osten married in church.
A comprehensive renovation of the church took place between 1990 and 1995, during which the interior was restored true to the original according to old representations.
Interior
There are three historical pointed arch windows in the nave. Traces of what was once a two-bay vault are hidden under a wooden ceiling. In the choir there are groin vaults on corner templates and shield arches. A baroque, wooden baptismal angel from the 18th century hovers with a bowl held out under the vaulted ceiling.
The altar with a three-part acanthus baroque structure and columns was built between 1694 and 1696. The late baroque pulpit from 1713 is made in the form of a flower basket. The seven-sided sound cover is provided with ornamental attachments, a volute crown and a figure of Christ.
In 1991/92 a picture of the Last Supper was restored during the restoration. The middle picture shows the group of crosses, the evangelists are on the sides and above, the gables are decorated with angels. There is also an oval image of the Ascension and the crowned figure of Christ. The columns of the altar, the central image and the depiction of the cross group are based on the style of Peter Paul Rubens .
The bell dates from 1589, the epitaph is from 1716.
Parish
The Evangelical Lutheran Church Community in Großenbrode belongs to the Ostholstein parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church). A service is held every Sunday. As a special feature, some of the services are held in the Low German dialect .
