The Kunigunden Church in Pottenstein , Upper Franconia, is a church from the 18th century.

history

After two previous buildings - the first chapel was probably built on this spot around 1300 - the Pottenstein Kunigunden Church was built between 1775 and 1777 by Ulrich Förtsch from Pottenstein. It is located on the terraced cemetery and next to the former hospital.

description

Externally, it is in the late Baroque style and bears the coat of arms of Bamberg's Prince-Bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim above its southern entrance .

The furnishings are partly rococo and partly early classicism . The main altar from 1777/78 comes from Melchior Günther and Bernhard Kamm. He is flanked by the statues of St. Michael slaying the dragon and St. Elizabeth with the beggar; these portraits are the work of a Bamberg court sculptor.

The side altars and the pulpit come from the Pottensteiner carpenter Weißenberger and the local sculptor Rupert; they were made in 1780. Particularly interesting is the left altarpiece, on which St. Elisabeth can be seen and in the background Pottenstein Castle with the still existing keep . The right altarpiece shows the patron saint of farmers, St. Wendelin .

The organ gallery is also a work by Weißenberger. Its parapet is supported by two marbled wooden pillars. The organ was built in the second half of the 19th century.
