Career

society

Simo began his football career in his home country of Cameroon. There he played for PWD Bamenda and Aigle Nkongsamba , among others , before he was lured to Europe because of his talent. In 1995 he was signed by the Italian club Torino Calcio , later Torino FC. He made his professional debut in paid football with the Bulls. At the end of the season, the Serie A team had to take part in the relegation games in order to secure the fading in the highest Italian league, but this did not succeed. The midfielder then moved to Switzerland for FC Lugano , where Simo rose to become a regular. Again the Cameroonian had to play in the relegation games with a club. This time he secured relegation with the club. His achievements did not go unnoticed by other European teams and the defensive player transferred to the French club AS Saint-Étienne in Division 2 in the summer of 1996 . As for the club, the season did not go well for Simo either, so that the two separated again after just one year. The midfielder finally moved back to Switzerland, where he signed with Neuchâtel Xamax . For the next four years he was a top performer and an important pillar of the team. In his second year with Xamax, the club was before relegation to the National League B, but secured the stay in the promotion or relegation round. In the following year, this fate befell the club, but was able to avert it again. 2003/04 they secured themselves relegation early and reached sixth place, with a point win more place three could be achieved. Simo left the club and joined league rivals FC Zurich . Here he had a hard time finding a regular place and after only a year the African moved on to FC Aarau , where he was backed up again. Two seasons later there was another club change and Simo signed in July 2006 with Urania Genève Sport . In October of the same year he was loaned to the Israeli club Hapoel Petach Tikwa . In the summer of 2007 he returned to Geneva, which he has played for ever since.

National team

Simo was a national player of Cameroon . In total, he came to 23 senior national team encounters. In 1996 he was nominated for his first tournament. At the age of 17, the midfielder was in the squad for the 1995 Africa Cup . At that time, the selection of coach Jules-Frederic Nyongha came with a young team. Pierre Womé and Joseph Marie Tchango were younger than Simo . Simo made his Africa Cup of Nations debut on January 13, 1996 against South Africa . In the 54th minute, the talent at the time came on for Tchango. In the next game five days later against Egypt he was in the starting line-up. The young national player also played the last preliminary round game. Two years later, Simo was reappointed. He was still one of the youngest. Simo's greatest success was participating in the 1998 World Cup in France. For this he was appointed by national coach Claude Le Roy in the squad of his country. In the group game against Austria on June 11, 1998, he came to his only use during the tournament. Accruing in the starting line-up, the midfielder was replaced in the 65th minute by Salomon Olembé . The game ended 1-1.

Simo had previously played in Cameroon's youth teams. In 1995 he took part in the Junior World Cup with the U-20s , where his team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against eventual winners Argentina . During the tournament he was used in all four possible games.
