Career
society
Womé began his career in his home country with Canon Yaoundé and moved for the first time abroad to Vicenza Calcio in the Italian Serie A in the 1996/97 season . He made his breakthrough two years later at AS Roma . Since he was rarely used in Rome , he moved to league rivals FC Bologna , where he was used regularly for three seasons. For the 2002/03 season Womé was signed by Fulham FC and moved to the English Premier League . After a season in England he was brought to Spain by Espanyol Barcelona for the 2003/04 season , where he became a regular. However, he returned to Brescia Calcio in the Italian Serie A at the end of the season . Since Brescia was relegated at the end of the 2004/05 season, Womé moved to Inter Milan , where he did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player in league games, but was regularly used in the Champions League .
For the 2006/07 season Womé moved to the German Bundesliga for Werder Bremen . There he made his debut on August 13, 2006 (1st matchday) in the 4-2 away win in Hanover , when he was nominated for the starting line-up by coach Thomas Schaaf . During the season, Womé developed into a top performer at Werder.
In autumn 2007, however, there was a public uproar with the medical department of the association. Womé had made public derogatory comments about the team doctor. Since then he has not been in the squad. After his persistent injury, Womé trained with the team for the first time in mid-April 2008, but was no longer used in the remaining games of the season. On May 28, 2008 Womé signed a two-year contract (with an option for a further year) with 1. FC Köln and was available to the club from the 2008/09 season. At the end of the 2009/10 season it was announced that 1. FC Köln will not extend the contract that expires at the end of the season and that Womé has been without a club since then. In November 2011 he signed a contract with FC Sapins in Gabon at the Championnat d'Elite . In August 2012 he canceled his contract with Cotonsport and moved to his youth club Canon Yaoundé . At the end of 2013 he let his career in the 2 league of Cameroon end with UMS de Loum. In 2014 he moved to France - mainly to complete his coaching training there - where he joined third - division promoted FC Chambly , who played near his home in Persan . In summer 2015 he joined the French club US Roye , where he ended his career in summer 2016.
National team
Womé played 67 international matches with the Cameroonian national soccer team and took part in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. In 2002 he won the title at the African Championship with his national team and was Olympic champion at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . In 2005 Womé resigned from the national team after he missed a decisive penalty in the last qualifying game for the 2006 World Cup against Egypt shortly before the end of the game and was then exposed to violent attacks by angry compatriots.
Womé has since announced his final resignation from the Cameroon national team.
