St. Lambertus (Haffen)
The Catholic parish church of St. Lambertus is a listed church building on Deichstrasse in Haffen , a district of Rees in the Kleve district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The delicate, two-aisled , cross-vaulted brick building was built at the beginning of the 15th century with polygonal choir closings . The mighty west tower can be seen from afar in the Rhine lowlands. The north aisle, built in one move together with the central nave, is only half as high and significantly narrower. After war damage in World War II , the church was repaired until 1950 and 1994. Of the wall paintings from the first half of the 15th century, on the wall of the main nave and above the arcades, mostly only remnants of the preliminary drawings have survived; some of them have been supplemented.
Furnishing
- There is a late Gothic painting of St. Christopher on the south wall of the tower hall .
- From the baptismal font of the 15th century only the six-sided pool is maintained.
- The frame of the two late Gothic wooden sculptures from the Lower Rhine was removed, then the figures were stained dark . St. Catherine from around 1470 to 1480 is attributed to Arnt Beeldesnider ; the figure of a holy bishop was carved around 1480.
