history

Interior of the church

The foundation stone for the St. Laurentius Church was laid in 1686 under its builder, Prince-Bishop Johann Gottfried von Guttenberg , during the term of office of the premier pastor Jörg Ulrich. The church was financed by a foundation established by Kaspar Schmitt in 1687. In 1692 its construction was completed. The high altar of the church was built around 1700.

In 1847 the church was destroyed by fire; the bells of the church melted, but the high altar is still preserved. Until 1849, the money required for a new building was collected in a collection under King Maximilian II Joseph . The Robert Maier bell foundry located in Ohrdruf installed new bells in the church in 1850, but these were melted down during the First World War in 1918 for the production of war weapons.

In 1930 the church received four new bells, three of which had to be returned in 1942. They sounded in the Salve Regina motif with the tones es', g ', b' and c ''. This motif was recreated in 1949.

In 1976 the church was renovated, in the course of which the altar table and the ambo were renewed and the side altars , which had been damaged in the fire of 1847, were replaced. The left side altar depicts Our Lady , the right one St. Lawrence of Rome , the namesake of the church.
