history

The church is the monastery church of the Dominican monastery founded around 1250. After destruction in the Hussite Wars and the Thirty Years' War, Count Franz Anton Berka von Dauba (1635–1706) took care of the renovation of the village, the monastery and the monastery church at the end of the 17th century. The church was built from 1699 to 1729 and is Hildebrandt's most important church building alongside the Peterskirche and the Piaristenkirche in Vienna.

In 1996 the church, in which the relics of St. Zdislava are venerated, was elevated to a Basilica minor and the patronage of St. Zdislava added.

meaning

The building was a model for subsequent builders, especially Johann Dientzenhofer , Christoph Dientzenhofer and Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer , who were active in Franconia and Bohemia .
