Zdislava von Lämberg

St. Zdislava von Lämberg (* after 1220 ; † 1252 at Lämberg Castle near Gabel ( Jablonné v Podještědí )) is venerated as the patron saint of the poor and suffering in Bohemia .

Life

Zdislava was the daughter of Přibyslav von Křižanov , who married the still young widow Sibylle around 1220, whose deceased husband had been the nobleman Bohuš and who had come to Bohemia in the wake of the Kunigunde from Staufen .

In 1238 Zdislava was married to Gallus of Lemberg ( Havel z Lemberka , Latin Gallus de Yablonni ; † 1253), whose ancestors were the Markwartinger and who is said to have founded the cities of Gabel and Habelschwerdt in the Glatzer country . The sons Gallus II, Jaroslav and Zdislav as well as the daughter Margarete emerged from the marriage.

1240 Gallus left of Lemberk the Coming and the Hospital of St. John in Bohemian Aicha build. In 1252 Zdislava donated the Dominican monastery with the St. Laurentius Church for Gabel .

As a Terziarin of the Dominican Order, Zdislava worked as a benefactress for the poor, the sick and those suffering from leprosy . She was buried in the crypt of the Laurentiuskirche in Gabel, soon revered as miraculous and begged for assistance.

Worship and canonization

Zdislava von Lämberg

As early as the 14th century, the Bohemian chronicler Dalimil reported on Zdislava's healing of the sick and the ascribed to her raising five dead.

Franz Anton ( František Antonín ) Berka von Dubá (1635–1706), who was a great admirer of his ancestor Zdislava, initiated the construction of the St. Laurentius Church at the end of the 17th century. It was designed by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt based on the model of St. Peter's Church in Vienna . After the death of Count Franz Anton Berka von Dubá in 1706, the construction of Franziska ( Františka ) Božena Rozálie Berka von Dubá († 1718), who had been married to Wilhelm ( Vilém ) Leopold Kinský von Vchynic († 1709) since 1679 , continued.

Later research showed that the Waldstein family was related to Zdislava. Despite the efforts of the Berka von Dubá, there was initially no papal confirmation of Zdislava's elevation to the blessed of the Catholic Church. This only happened in 1907 by Pope Pius X. In 1908 her relics were raised to this status.

Even after Czechoslovakia came to power in 1948, the then bishop of Leitmeritz, Stepán Trochta, tried to canonize Zdislava's canonization from 1949 onwards , but this did not take place until May 21, 1995 by Pope John Paul II . Her day of remembrance, which is not required, is January 1st, in the Dominican Order she is commemorated on January 4th.

souvenir

There is a memorial on the pilgrimage hill Svatá hora . A church consecrated to Zdislava has been in Lavičky since 1994 . In 1996, Jablonné v Podještědí's Laurentius Church, where the relics of the saints are venerated, was elevated to a minor basilica and the patronage of St. Zdislava added.
