A first church in the Gothic style was built in Luka in the middle of the 14th century on a hill. The church was first mentioned in writing in 1357. It also appears in the papal tithe register in the years 1384, 1385, 1399 and 1405. From 1554 to 1624 the parish was provided with a Lutheran pastor. The church is said to have been burned down by imperial troops after the battle of the White Mountain . In 1650 the place received a Catholic priest, Johann Langheim.

In 1722, the then landlord Christoph Adalbert Putz von Breitenbach had the church rebuilt in the Baroque style, as evidenced by his coat of arms above the entrance portal. The church was opened on the Sunday after the feast of St. Archangel Michael solemnly consecrated. A new bell, the so-called conversion bells, was installed in the church tower on June 12, 1724. At the initiative of the pastor Andreas Martin, a new main altar from the New Town Corpus Christi Church in Prague, a side altar from the Prague Old Town Church of St. Stephen and a statue of St. Stephen were made from two abolished monasteries in 1789. Wenzel as well as a chasuble and two dalmatics and accessories. The old main altar was erected as a high altar in the St. Anna Chapel in Luka.

In 1819 the cemetery was enlarged. In 1820 Maria gave Countess Czernin von Chuderitz, a canon in the New Town monastery in Prague and landlady of the parish church of Luck, an altar cloth she had made herself. A renovation took place in 1822, during which a new altar table was purchased. In 1828 the old so-called conversion bell, which had a crack, was replaced by a new bell weighing thirty pounds. In 1832, the church's patron saint at the time, Johann Hladrik, had the church roof covered with new shingles.

Recently, moisture penetrated the interior of the church through a leaky roof, damaging the paintings on the wooden ceiling. After the roof was repaired, part of the ceiling painting was restored. In 2007, in a final phase, the wooden ceiling was attached, with the roof structure also being restored. In 2011 the church finally got a new roof and a year later a new spire with a lightning rod.

architecture

The church has a rectangular floor plan with a triple closed presbytery. There is an octagonal bell tower on the south wall. The sandstone entrance portal on the west facade bears the coat of arms of the Putz von Breitenbach family. The wooden ceiling of the church is painted with the image of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary surrounded by symbols of the evangelists.
