St. Lukas (Schweinfurt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Lukas is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church in the Schweinfurt district of Hochfeld / Steinberg in Lower Franconia. The church is located on Segnitzstrasse and was created by the architect Gerhard Weber . The church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Schweinfurt .

history

After the Second World War , the Schweinfurt urban area expanded to the east into the so-called Hochfeld. This is also where the youngest of the city's Evangelical Lutheran parishes came into being, which also extends to the Deutschhof area . The Munich professor Gerhard Weber could be won as architect . The church was built between 1966 and 1969 and was baptized St. Luke Parish. In 1982, a community center was established in the former Gut Deutschhof and assigned to the church.

architecture

The Lukaskirche was built on a high concrete base . The church itself is presented in the form of a tent. The complex is surrounded by other buildings, such as the community center . There is a community room on the ground floor of the church, above which the worship room was set up on the upper floor. As the only church in the city, the Lukaskirche did not have a bell tower . The bells, on the other hand, are hung in a bell chamber on Segnitzstrasse.

The interior supports the underlying tent concept. The southern gable wall was designed as a 130 m² window side, through which light penetrates into the interior of the church behind the altar. The predominant materials glass, concrete and aluminum refer to the industrial location Schweinfurt. In the interior, on the other hand, light colors predominate, in particular the altar pedestal on one of the gable sides was kept in white tones.

Furnishing

Instead of an altar painting, an over 8 m high glass altar painting rises in front of a simple window front. The work of art was created by Johannes Hewel from Rot am See and was inaugurated on March 1, 1992. It interprets the parable of the prodigal son, together with the opening predella , which consists of a total of nine linoleum cuts by Hewel. The altar is kept in strong colors.

The church stalls are not aligned parallel to the altar; instead, the central aisle forms an axis with the baptismal font . It is designed as a sphere surrounded by a flat bowl. The font, altar and pulpit are made of white marble. The bells in the chamber form a three-part ring. A christening bell from St. John's Church was transferred here as the oldest bell . The other two bells, the “Our Father Bell” and the “Evening Bell” were cast by the Rincker brothers from Sinn.

Bell cellar

Below the large cross in front of the church there is a square opening on the bottom of which the church bells are placed. A construction that is unique in Germany.
