The Catholic Church of St. Mary, Help of Christians in Waldangelloch , a district of the large district town of Sinsheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1959/60 for the local Catholic community, which had grown due to the influx of displaced people.

history

After there were only about 30 Catholics in Waldangelloch before the Second World War, a larger Catholic community was formed from 1946 onwards due to the influx of displaced persons and refugees, which was initially looked after by Pastor Franz Greszl from the parish of Eichtersheim, who was also displaced . Greszl was followed by the fathers of the Grüssau Abbey , who celebrated Catholic services in the school and in the town hall. In 1950 there were 324 Catholics among 1250 inhabitants. To accommodate the new residents, a large new building area was developed in the northwest of the town. At the beginning of 1954, the Catholics considered converting an old, solidly bricked tithe barn in the center of the village into a church. When the barn was unsuccessful, the Palatinate Catholic Church Office arranged a property swap with the Evangelical Care Schoenau and made the property at the western end of the town available to the Catholic community for development. The church was built from 1959 and consecrated in 1961.

The church is a simple hall building with a gable roof and a bell tower and sacristy attached to the side .

Bells

The three bronze bells of the church were ordered from Schilling in Heidelberg in 1961 and cast in 1963. The largest of the bells strikes h ', is 79.1 cm in diameter and weighs 315 kg. Her inscription reads MARIA, HELP OF THE CHRISTIANS WE TRUST IN YOU. ANNO DOMINI 1963 . The middle bell has the strike note d '', a diameter of 68.3 cm and a weight of 210 kg. Their inscription reads HL. KING STEPHANUS: IF GOD IS WITH US WHO IS AGAINST US! The small bell has the strike note e '', a diameter of 60.4 cm and a weight of 141 kg. Their inscription reads HL. KLEMENS MARIA HOFBAUER: LEAD US FROM HOMELESS TO ETERNAL HOME .
