The Catholic parish church of St. Maria Magdalena is located in Dortmund-Lütgendortmund .

The neo-Romanesque church with 340 seats today was consecrated on October 10, 1892 by the Paderborn auxiliary bishop Augustinus Gockel .

The parish church's special art-historical significance lies primarily in the extensive interior painting of the choir room. The building is registered as a monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund .

Between 1984 and 1987 the church was renovated and restored. The extensive interior painting of the choir was completely restored, which was carried out during the tenure of Pastor Dr. Adolf Stakemeier (1950–1974) had been painted over, and the choir and chancel redesigned according to the liturgical understanding of the Second Vatican Council . Pastor Berthold Wagener (1978-2011) contributed significantly to this.

In the course of a further renovation in 2015, the church received a modern fresco by the artist Thomas Jessen from Eslohe on the wall in the south transept: a resurrection scene, on which the church patron Maria Magdalena is also shown. The west tower carries one of the deepest bells in the Dortmund area. It consists of four cast steel bells with the tone sequence b ° -des'-es'-f '.

The parish of St. Maria-Magdalena comprises the districts of Lütgendortmund and Somborn with currently around 6,300 Catholics and, together with the parishes of Christ our Peace in Oespel-Kley, Herz-Jesu in Bövinghausen, the Holy Family and St. Laurentius in Marten, forms the Dortmund pastoral association West with a total of about 14,000 Catholics.
