St. Martin

St. Martin is a Roman Catholic parish church in Blomberg in the district of Lippe , North Rhine-Westphalia . Church and congregation belong to the Lippe-Süd pastoral network of the Bielefeld-Lippe dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

When the number of Catholics in Blomberg continued to grow after the Second World War and the desire arose to create a church service room according to the specifications of the Second Vatican Council , a new building was built next to the 29-year-old Christ Church of St. Martin. It was created in 1965/66 according to plans by Otto Weicken . After completion, the old Christ Church was demolished.

architecture

The church rises above a cross-shaped plan. She's from a gable roof covered what the cross arms with covers. The structure is faced with red natural stone. The gable facing the street is partly made of concrete honeycomb .

The church tower is hexagonal and free-standing. At the level of the bell chamber there are trapezoidal openings that go over the corners.

Dark floor slabs have been laid inside the church, which contrast with the light walls. The ceiling is paneled with wood. At the rear of the church there is a gallery that supports the organ.

Furnishing

Large openings with glass windows by Wilhelm Buschulte are set in the cross arms of the church. The altar , ambo and tabernacle were made by the sculptor Josef Baron. The older part of the Way of the Cross is by August Witte.
