Botho zu Stolberg came from the former imperial direct line of the counts Stolberg-Roßla of the noble family Stolberg , who enjoyed various privileges as noblemen. The family held possessions in Prussia in the county of Stolberg-Roßla and in Ortenberg in the Grand Duchy of Hesse and consequently hereditary seats in the Prussian mansion (1880-1893) and in the First Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse ([1875] 1878-1893). Botho zu Stolberg's parents were Karl Graf zu Stolberg-Roßla (1822–1870) and Bertha, née Countess zu Solms-Rödelheim (1824–1896).

Botho zu Stolberg married Marie Countess von Arnim (1859–1880), who died after the birth of their first child. In his second marriage he married Princess Hedwig zu Isenburg and Büdingen in Büdingen (1863-1925), with whom he had seven more children. Heir was the eldest son Jost Christian Fürst zu Stolberg-Roßla (1886–1916), after-heir to the second oldest son Christoph Martin (1888–1949). After his death, his widow Hedwig married Kuno zu Stolberg-Roßla in 1902 , the son of Bruno zu Ysenburg and Büdingen , who represented Christoph Martin zu Stolberg-Roßla in the First Hessian Chamber for a long time.

Life

Since the death of his father in 1870, Botho zu Stolberg was 19 years old and became a registrar of the County of Stolberg-Roßla. He was a royal Prussian prime lieutenant in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps . In 1880, when he turned 30, he took the seat of the family in the Prussian mansion, to which he belonged until his death in 1893. Even before that, in 1878, he had taken his seat in the First Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. Since a minimum age of 25 years was required for the mandate in the Grand Duchy of Hesse, he could have been a member of the state parliament as early as 1875. He took the deputy oath on November 22, 1878. In March 1893, King Wilhelm II raised him to the hereditary prince status, like his cousins ​​from the Stolberg-Wernigerode and Stolberg-Stolberg lines.
