The Evangelical Lutheran Martinskirche is in the center of the city of Meuselwitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

The wooden predecessor church, first mentioned in a document in the 14th century, was consecrated to St. Martin of Tours . In 1687, the landowner and patron saint Veit Ludwig von Seckendorff , who was later buried in the church, had the baroque St. Martin's Church built on the same spot . From the early days, a wooden crucifix donated in 1700 has been preserved in the church.

Over the centuries the church was rebuilt several times, first in 1740 by the Hungarian builder Häkher, whereby the tower was given its characteristic shape. The Trampeli brothers from Adorf installed the organ in 1797 . A complete renovation took place from 1907 to 1911, further renovations in 1934, 1985–1987 and 1998/99. The new altarpiece , created by the Wismar artist Hans Wilfried Scheibner, shows the division of the coat of Saint Martin.
