St. Martinus, the Gothic tower

St. Martinus is the Roman Catholic parish church of Uedesheim , a district of Neuss in the Rhine district of Neuss .

history

In the liber valoris , St. Martinus was mentioned as a capella , and since 1395 the church has been called a parish church. In 1453 the church was renovated. The still preserved Gothic tower belongs to this period. It consists of three storeys and was built from brick with no external structure. The tower hall is spanned with a ridge vault. A Gothic pointed arch opened to the nave of the old church.

On December 14, 1661, the church burned down to the tower, whereupon a new building was necessary. The top floor and the tower dome date from this time. In 1783 the church burned down again and had to be restored. Due to the growth of the parish, it was decided in 1959 to close down the church and build a larger new building. The new church, which includes the old west tower, was built by giving up the traditional easting of the old nave and facing south. The church windows were designed by Günter Grote in 1960 .
