Church in Herrmannsacker (2014)

The Protestant village church of St. Mauritius is located in the Herrmannsacker district of the Harztor community in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .

history

The church , first mentioned in 1672, was built on the foundations of a previous church. The interior work began in 1708.

The church was surrounded with old rubble stones and built in neoclassical style. Your windows are atypical, hence an art-historical special case. The church has a wooden barrel ceiling and galleries. The altar dates from 1750. The tower was dismantled in the 1930s and a free belfry was built.

Inadequate care led to decay during the GDR era. In 1972 the church was closed. The roof was leaking. It soon collapsed, including the roof and the vault. Part of the north side also collapsed. The church became a ruin, a material store and was set up for breeding small animals (rabbits).

After the political change , the village's attitude towards the building changed. A church building association was founded, which was funded by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, the Thuringian Monument Protection Association and private donors. Reconstruction began in 1999, and the interior is still far from complete (2014).
