The Catholic parish church of St. Maximilian is a listed church building in Niesen , a district of Willebadessen in the Höxter district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The neo-Romanesque central building made of quarry stone, with a crossing tower and an east apse was built from 1923 to 1926 in the form of a Greek cross . The corner fixtures are kept low. The walls are structured by cornices, pilaster strips and arched friezes. Ridge vaults were drawn into the two- bay cross arms. The Ostkonche was provided with deep window cuts.

Color window

In 1950 Jaap Sombroek was commissioned to design five colored glass windows for the church choir. The windows were made in the Hein Derix glass workshop in Kevelaer based on his designs. The windows have a uniform size of 140 × 90 cm, they depict biblical themes. Their colors dominate the church.

Liborius figure

In front of the building there is a stone figure of St. Liborius on a pyramidal base . It is marked 1476 and bears the donor coat of arms of the Asseburg-Bocholtz family.
